The Flame Pit / Permanent "temporary" signs
« on: April 20, 2026, 01:25:17 pm »
Streetview link

This stretch of road is a 40mph limit but the "temporary" 40 signs have been there at least six years - possibly much longer. Is there any regulation on the timeframe for permanent signs once the TRO is passed? The temporary signs often blow over.

News / Press Articles / PCN for passenger leaving site

That can't be right. Surely the passenger cannot be bound by any Ts & Cs displayed, and the driver cannot physically restrict their passenger's movements once they get out the car.

Ah OK. Looks like the system has changed for the better.

Unless West Midlands have changed their system very recently, you also have to sign and post the form confirming your address and licence details (even though you did so online as well). If you don't you have not fully complied with the Conditional Offer.

The Flame Pit / Solicitor's Agents and Right of Audience

Solicitor's agent refused right of audience in a small-claims parking case. Ruling is "causing chaos" apparently.

You could try Andrew Thompson http://www.counsel.direct (He posts as AGTLAW on Pistonheads and is based in Leeds)

8
...did you not notice that you were not receiving VED renewal reminders ?

OP said the V5 address was corrected six weeks after buying the car, so there wouldn't be any missing VED reminders.

The Flame Pit / Re: Change of address, V5, licence

I used it yesterday to renew my DL. One interesting part of the registration was laying your smartphone on your passport so it can read the ID chip.

You do need a reasonably recent Android phone / iPhone to register (can't remember the exact specs).

The Flame Pit / Change of address, V5, licence
« on: October 15, 2025, 01:54:18 pm »
Almost every day someone posts in the main forums that they moved house, changed the address on their driving licence, but didn't update the V5 / RK details, leading to all kinds of self-inflicted issues.

Well I don't know how new this is but I just updated my driving licence (over 70 so every 3 years <sigh>). There's a new (to me) "GOV.UK ONE" service that links to DVLA for online applications, and that now lets you add a vehicle to the same account as your driving licence.

So I assume if you change the address for one it will automatically update the other, or at least strongly remind you to do so.

Speeding and other criminal offences / Re: S172 & Late NIP

David Beckham is possibly the best known case. But there was conclusive proof the NIP arrived late.

Re: "leeway" - prosecution begins at 10%+2 so a NIP for 46mph in a 40 limit is to be expected.

You should get free prescriptions if you are being treated for cancer.

I thought the phone had to be hand-held and used to make the offence. OP said it was lying on the seat and he touched it with one finger - does that count as hand-held?

15
Unfortunately the offence isn't using it but is handling it/touching it when it is not in a holder so it sounds as if you are bang to rights. Past driving record is irrelevant. Others may have further comment though.

See post by AGTLAW (a well respected motoring lawyer) on Pistonheads where he says

The offence is made out when driving and holding a phone in your hand and using that phone.

- all three elements necessary.
