The Flame Pit / Re: Where to find TMO for Chatham Bus Station
« on: June 03, 2026, 06:55:40 pm »
Thanks for that, I couldn't find it either! there's anecdotal evid3nce that some bus drivers have b3n issued PCNs for using the bus station which happens to be a public road for buses, taxis and cycles only. some of the signs have the word LOCAL on them, meaining only buses on local services are allowed to use the road. I usually only drive rail replacement buses which are now classed as local bus services as they run to a timetable (believe it or not). There's been anecdotal cases again that certain local bus operators drivers have been given pcns. In effect what the authority is saying is that "company A can use it on their route 123, but company B can't use it on the same route as they have mauve buses with pink dots". Both are running on local bus services. which is why I'd like to see what the TRO actually says. Some companies just pay the PCNs and deduct it from wages which in a lot of cases is grossly unfair.

Have you tried posting this question as a REEL on FB (other social media is avaialable)? That seems full of video/camcar clips showing precisely this sort of thing which despite the clip saying Wait Till the End, nothing actually happens. No carnage, no shouty windows down at three paces. Amazing relly. It seems most camcar drivwrs have never read the Highway Code. It's almost as if some form of artificial intelligence was trying to tell us something.

What I'd like to see now is an exemption for historic vehicles from the 10 year old tyre rule. I have 2 pre 1960 buses, both fitted with new tyres in 2015. Both have done under 10,000km in that time, the tyres are still in excellent condition with 7mm tread, no signs of cracking etc. BUT, because they are over 10 years old, it is now illegal to use tyres over 10 years old on steer axles. The problem is that 750x20 and 1000x20 cross ply are only made in small batches every few years.

Here the law is an ass because have said the above, if my buses are uses on a typical bur rally free service, I can use over 10 year old tyres, but as soon as an operators disc goes in the front window and money/fares/H&R comes into play, the tyres magically deteriorate to such a dgree as to be unusable.  I'd wanted to poartake in the Imber bus service this year but the organisrs are stipulating that all buses on the service have tyres all round under 10 years old. how is it they can stipulate something that is not required in law?

The Flame Pit / Where to find TMO for Chatham Bus Station

Hi, I've been trying to find the TMO or TRO for the recently re-developed Chatham Bus Station. I've heard of some bus drivers being given PCNs for using the bus station facility which is for Buses, taxis and cycles only. I've tried the Medway Council website and that's as much use as a union flag on a lamp post. Any ideas? I need to see the exact wording. Thanks.

You say you are in the motor trade, do you have a trader's policy that covers you for driving anything in your care and custody?

6
Probably not much you can do, it's an absolute offence, either you have insurance or you don't. If you hadn't been able to arrange insurance on the spot your car would have been towed away.

I suggest you make life easier by having one TfL account with a list of all the vehicles you drive, that way you're covered in almost every direction, ULEZ, C zone, tunnels etc. It deducts money from your account without the worry. Dartford Crossing has a similar system.,

8
Sounds like it's been on a public road for a long time.

How long have you been abroad, which country, proof of arrival there such as passport stamp? Are you aware that as you are currently banned from driving in the UK that also bans you from driving outside the UK unless you have a non-UK licence.

How many drivers don't stop when a light goes red? touchè. :)

Many years ago, early 1970s maybe, when Volvo's "boxy" cars came out, I was out with a friend in his volvo. As we turned off Tibbets Corner to go along Commonside towards Wimbledon, a car pulled out of the side road on from=nt of us. My friend got out of the car and "had words" with the car driver.

He got back in the car laughing. "what did you say" I asked. "I informed the driver that if one hadn't had excellent brakes, one would have been joining one's lady friend...in a communal grave". He had a way with words.

I saw the  50 signs when I drove along that road about 4 weeks ago. They've been there for many years.

A good result.

The red line through the ticket means his ticket roll is about to run out.

Best wait tp see what, if anything, comes through the post.

I suggest that maybe buying a new battery would have cost £100-£150 whsomewhere in this case.ich meant you could have got the car tested and taxed. Which makes me wonder if it was also insured at the time. You may find a hornet's nest.
