Breakdown Recovery Insurance
« on: »
I've had my car insured with Dynamo Insurance for breakdown, recovery etc, full EU cover. I had a problem in Belgium last year which resulted in a claim which was all settled. The policy expired in late March/early April and I noted that as well as the annual fee of £100+, they would also take another £15+ a month, thereby doubling the premium. I expected a slight price rise but not doubling. The account was set to auto-renew but I couldn't find out how to cancel the auto-renew. Logging in th the website was as useful as a chocolate teapot as there's no phone help at all, just all on-line.

I'd done the usual comparisons online and found that by starting as a new customer the price quoted would be slightly under the £100+ without the £15+ a month. So I signed up for that and tried many times to cancel the auto-renew to no avail. I ended up cancelling my credit card payment for the auto-renew payment but that missed a deadline by one day but the cc are trying to refund my money on that. I got so fed up trying to get through to a human at this company that I've given up and cancelled all payments to them and taken my business elsewhere. I'm still owed a refund from them, can anyone suggest how to proceed? Their AI cannot understand the complexities of the case as I ended up having 2 policies with them. Maybe a letter before intent to issue a county court claim to get my money back.

I've spoken to the recovery breakdown line people and they give a number for this company but usually say good luck, you'll never get through to them the phone line goes round in circles. there did seem to be a bit of human intervention in the email chain but that has now vanished. It's back to AI.

I would cut your losses and use another company.

The firms recommended by Which? are:

Aviva (despite using the RAC)
Axa Assistance
Autonational Rescue
Start Rescue

Your firm isn't listed.

Thanks, I've already used another provider via my car policy. But since posting here today I've had 2 emails from dynamo cover demanding penalty charge and admin fees for cancelling a policy that they already told me was cancelled 2 months ago.

I hate trying to discuss things with AI, they are not programmed to discuss things outside certain parameters.
