Where to find TMO for Chatham Bus Station
« on: »
Hi, I've been trying to find the TMO or TRO for the recently re-developed Chatham Bus Station. I've heard of some bus drivers being given PCNs for using the bus station facility which is for Buses, taxis and cycles only. I've tried the Medway Council website and that's as much use as a union flag on a lamp post. Any ideas? I need to see the exact wording. Thanks.
Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.

I can't find a copy online.

Email Medway to obtain a copy. Are the PCN's being issued to bus drivers for parking or moving traffic offences?

Thanks for that, I couldn't find it either! there's anecdotal evid3nce that some bus drivers have b3n issued PCNs for using the bus station which happens to be a public road for buses, taxis and cycles only. some of the signs have the word LOCAL on them, meaining only buses on local services are allowed to use the road. I usually only drive rail replacement buses which are now classed as local bus services as they run to a timetable (believe it or not). There's been anecdotal cases again that certain local bus operators drivers have been given pcns. In effect what the authority is saying is that "company A can use it on their route 123, but company B can't use it on the same route as they have mauve buses with pink dots". Both are running on local bus services. which is why I'd like to see what the TRO actually says. Some companies just pay the PCNs and deduct it from wages which in a lot of cases is grossly unfair.

As the sign includes the word "local" the applicable definition trail is found in the TSRGD 2016 which is the legislation that regulates traffic signs. It is defined thus:

“local” when shown on a bus symbol, indicates that the road or the traffic lane on or near which the sign has been placed must be used only by local buses.

“local bus” a public service vehicle used for the provision of a local service not being an excursion or tour

“local service” has the meaning given in section 2 of the Transport Act 1985

Here is the TA 1985 section 2 definition

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware of that update. My interest is because I drive rail replacement buses for planned engineering works and in emergency. The argument has always been that on such services passengers must have a valid ticket to travel, so that covers the "each person must pay a separate fare". The 15 mile bit may come into play, but on services I drive there's no problem as stations are fairly close together.

Some people were made to believe that "local buses" only applied to those on registered local bus routes, that is clearly not the case here. Thanks for your help.
