LBC wrong drug-driving figures wrong
« on: »
Listiening to LBC (talk radio) news item this morning, there was an item about the dangers of drug driving, stating that drug driving was responsible for 1600 road deaths last year. As the total road deaths last year was about 1800 and has been around that figure for a few years, I fail to see that their figures are accurate.

And Kent Police announcing their annual Christmas crackdown on drunk drivers, last year they caught 60, an amazing two a day! Why bother?
Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.

You're right - "Drug driving accounted for 1,624 road fatalities last year - a 170% increase in less than a decade." - and they've even put it in writing on their website: https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/55-drivers-arrested-for-drink-driving-daily-transport/

There's some iffy figures being bandied about.

The D.O.T. website shows the 1624 fatalities figure to be total deaths in the year 2023.

See item 2 in attached link :-

It's simple. Drug driving is a cause of road deaths. Road deaths were 1624, therefore drug driving caused 1624 road deaths. Even Diane Abbott can understand that.

I wonder if an email complaint to LBC would make them issue a correction? <cue Monty Python dead parrot sketch>
