That is usually what happens, yes. What they often do is draw the matter out as close as possible to that date, making increasingly desperate offers to settle for ever-reducing amounts in the meantime.

Hello all,

Just wanted to say a massive thank you to all who contributed and helped along the journey - the claimant has now decided NOT to pursue the claim against the defendant and has been thrown out.

Good news @Dandalf. However, please confirm whether they discontinued or the claim was struck out. Please show us either the N279 Notice of Discontinuation or the court order stating that the claim is struck out.
