Author Topic: Got a parking charge from Parkdirect UK despite having a valid permit — their own evidence proves the permit was there.  (Read 71 times)

Long one, sorry in advance — but I think this is worth sharing because it's genuinely infuriating and might help others in the same situation.

I park in a permit holders only car park and have a valid PDUK Resident parking permit (issued by Parkdirect UK themselves). Recently came back to find a Parking Charge Notice slapped on my car for "failing to display a valid parking permit." Fair enough, I thought — let me just appeal with my photos and get this sorted quickly.

I submitted photos I took on the same day showing the permit clearly displayed on the inside of my windscreen. You can see the permit number, "PDUK RESIDENT", the location code and bay number all perfectly readable. One photo is taken from outside the car showing the permit visible through the glass. Open and shut, right?

Wrong. They rejected my appeal claiming — and I quote — that "no valid parking permit was on display upon inspection." They also said the permit must display a hologram readable from outside, suggested the permit wasn't clear enough, and told me to "take precautions to secure the permit in the future."

Then it got interesting

When they rejected my appeal, they sent me their own photographic evidence that the attendant took at the time. I was expecting photos of an empty windscreen. Instead, their own timestamped photos (20/05/2026, 01:06am) show:

A clear close-up of the permit with all details fully legible — permit number, "PARKING PERMIT", "PDUK RESIDENT", Location 9492, Bay 58
A wide shot from outside the vehicle where the permit is visibly in the windscreen
A second close-up again showing all details readable

So their attendant photographed my permit in fine detail, then issued a charge for failing to display it. Their rejection letter says no permit was displayed. Their own photos say otherwise.

I've paid nothing. I'm escalating to the Independent Appeals Service (IAS) at theias.org. My appeal is based on:

A valid permit was displayed — proven by both my photos and theirs
Their written claim directly contradicts their own photographic evidence
Natural wear on a permit does not constitute "failure to display"
I'm a legitimate permit holder parked in my correct designated bay — no breach occurred

The discounted amount is £60, full charge is £100. I'm not paying either on principle, because the permit was there and they know it was there.

Has anyone had success with the IAS against Parkdirect UK specifically? And has anyone else experienced this — where the operator's own evidence contradicts the reason for the charge? Feels like the attendant issued the ticket without properly checking, and now the company is doubling down rather than admitting the error.

Any advice welcome!

I would not bother with IAS.

When they issue court proceeding I would immediately issue a counterclaim for misuse of personal data + unreasonable behaviour.

If this is as clear cut as you say then you'd make a few quid.

Make sure you keep every single letter they send including all letters from 3rd party debt collectors.
