The Flame Pit / Re: Cancelled speeding NIP
« on: December 05, 2025, 05:42:17 pm »
The alleged offense occurred on the 6th of Aug on the M25 anti-clockwise Junction 5, Westerham. There was a temporary speed restriction of 50 mph due to roadworks.

I'm afraid there isn't much more to it, nor to the communication received from the police. Since I didn't see any threads on this, nor anything reported by Kent police or news elsewhere, I assume that these cancellations weren't announced publicly. So I thought to check with the experts on this forum for the best way to get more details, through a FOI request perhaps.

I've linked to a copy of the cancellation since the exact wording was requested: https://imgpile.com/p/2GBOJEQ.

The Flame Pit / Cancelled speeding NIP

Hi all,

I've just surprisingly received notice that a NIP for speeding has been cancelled as: Kent police have been made aware of an issue relating to a number of speed enforcement cases in the UK. As a "precaution" there will no further action in relation to the case, and consequently this offence has been cancelled.

Is anyone aware at all what these issues with enforcement cases may be? IF not, what would be the best way to get this information from Kent police, would a FOI request be the best avenue?

Thanks

I've driven down the road again, and unfortunately yes the advance warning sign is there. Never noticed it before though, on that section of the road you're focusing ahead, looking out for oncoming traffic as the road curves to the left. The sign is also just on one side of the road, the opposite side of direction of travel.

Pictures of the signs: https://imgpile.com/p/4AGcigV, it looks like they have removed the “Except authorised vehicles” wording.

I think I'd still argue the signage isn't sufficient, there is no warning at the start of the road, and this particular warning side is very easily missed due to where it's been placed.

I've uploaded the video here: https://imgpile.com/p/z6dvTt8

I did go back earlier to check the signs; the restriction is in place, it's essentially from some time in the morning until 7pm, so unfortunately I crossed 8 min early. I'll be driving past the area again tomorrow, so let me know if specific information is required, in which case I'll take a photo of the signs.

There is no escape road prior to crossing the signs, and as you can see from the video it's certainly not a wide road. I also had a car right behind me, so it would have been dangerous to all of a sudden come to a stop.

To confirm I'm indeed the registered keeper and the PCN is addressed to me.

Received a PCN as I was travelling north bound on Crooms Hill, and barely even noticed the signs indicating some sort of a restriction, but at that point it was already too late. I've gone up the road again, and there is no advance warning at all, the street is very narrow with parked cars on one side, no escape road and not really much of an opportunity to reverse and drive all the way back up again.

Is there enough here to appeal this PCN? Could I also use the fact that that the period in which the notice must be paid is wrongly stated as "period of 28 days beginning with the date of this notice"?

PCN can be viewed here: https://imgpile.com/p/2pcUKLF

I’m afraid I don’t recall the exact options shown, and GSV isn’t clear either. I’ve only parked there once before, and on that occasion just used the machine to pay for a few hours, so I know the signage and machines are definitely there.

Appreciate the clarification on the codes, looks like that was a mistake on our side, so I guess we don’t have much ground to appeal in this case.

Happy to hear if there is another angle worth trying, otherwise will just look to pay the fine before the "discount" period ends.

Hi all,

I parked at the Queens Market Car Park after dropping my girlfriend off nearby. I asked her to pay for the parking while I went to park up.

She used a parking app (the one mentioned on the signage, I believe, though I couldn’t double check this on GSV). The issue is that the app only seemed to offer a monthly payment option, which she didn’t choose, and she also forgot to tell me when I arrived. By the time we got back, we had unfortunately received a parking ticket.

Looking again at the app now, there still doesn’t seem to be an option to pay for just a couple of hours, which is definitely possible from the on-site machines. App screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/aJazFyx

Does anyone know if it’s worth appealing the ticket on the grounds that the app didn’t offer the correct duration options?

Thanks

I've received a notice of debt recovery from dcbl. Is this the letter of claim, or can I safely ignore it?

Thanks

That's fair question, I just simply missed the email - it was among a lot of junk mail.

They rejected it on the 15th of Aug, so unfortunately I'm out of the Popla appeal window.

I have received a letter from CPPlus stating that legal action is pending as they haven't received full payment and it's now too late to appeal. Link to letter: https://imgur.com/a/vHWevwA

I've just noticed they responded to the appeal by email but did not send me a rejection by post.

Do I still have recourse at this stage to appeal to POPLA?

Thanks

Thank you, initial appeal submitted.

Noted regarding GSV (FYI, unfortunately we don't live in the area so it wasn't possible to get the actual photos on site).

Thanks

Hi helpful forum members,

The registered keeper has received a PCN for vehicle parked in Prospect Place over the 2 hour free stay.

The driver is new to the car park, and didn't notice the parking restrictions. Having looked at GSV, the signage is rather sparse, and no signs were visible from the location were the vehicle was parked. The driver assumed it was a free car park and thus parking wasn't paid.

Linked to is the received PCN, with two examples of the signage. What would be the best way to appeal this, and is it valid to state the signage is insufficient?

Many Thanks
