Hi Guys,

Just wanted some advice regarding a PCN that was issued to me going through the Blackwall tunnel in December.

I didnt pay the tunnel charge assuming that I was covered under autopay. I checked my Autopay the day before and it said my vehicle was on Autopay. It is a motor tricycle.

I called Autopay and confirmed registration of my vehicle and they were surprised at the PCN but told me to contact TfL.

I appealed and sent the screenshots. They managed to locate my account and said that unfortunately my registration (VRM) on my account on autopay was entered wrong (I used a 0 instead of an O) even though it had the description of my motorbike underneath. I had set this up many years ago and at the time of setting up it didnt do an aoutomatic plate check confirming the vehicle - which it now does.

Is this worth going to the tribunal for and risking paying £180, or just accept and pay the £90 fine?

The official font for number plates uses the same character for 'O' as it does for '0' (zero).

Please read this and update your thread accordingly:-

Yes it does.

But that is not the isssue here.

The issue is that i setup my autopay with a zero instead of an O by mistake.

Not sure whether they would take that into consideration....

You need to post the material if you want informed help.

For parking PCNs, several adjudicators allow appeals for the O/0 mishap (and 1/I, which is also identical in the VRM font although O/0 is more common and also both digits are said 'O'). Other adjudicators take a hardline but possibly because they've not been informed of the issue - how would say someone from abroad renting a car here know the difference?

It seems that you didn't make reps based on this and they've just noted it in the rejection.

There is a separate adjudication panel for TFL road charging PCNs and as this is an account registration issue it's hard to say if it's a goer.

But TFL doesn't contest a lot of PCNs and may not bother with this one.
