I haven't been caught
« on: October 16, 2024, 10:37:32 pm »
A bit different to the "have I been caught" threads, I recently part-exchanged my 08 Vogue with knackered engine and a 2010 Range rover Sport horrible car) for a 2010 Vogue. All the paperwork was done on the day of the deal online at the dealers on 20th September.

My surprise in the post today was 2 s172 requests for driver details for my old Sport exceeding the temporary 40 on the bridge into Wales! 2 on the same day, 59 in a 40 warning that the maximum fine is £2500 and 6 points! Someone will be an ex-Range Rover Sport driver for a while.

Needless to say I've completed the s172 online and returned it naming the dealer I sold the car to.
Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.

From reading posts on here and PPP, it seems that the police send the NIP to the previous keeper when the vehicle is showing as being in trade, presumably based on some notion that "that's all they need to do" - and utterly avoiding attempting to serve a NIP on any new policy holder, based on some notion that they don't need to bother with trying to serve any other NIP within the 14 days.

Or the DVLA/PNC might not have been updated at that point.
I am responsible for the accuracy of the information I post, not your ability to comprehend it.

Yep, I was sent an S172 request for my old car when I traded it in for a new one. Dealer also did the paperwork online that same day.

The timeline didn't seem long enough for the police to get a response from the dealer, so presumably DVLA keep you as the keeper and it just has an "In Trade" marker until the new keeper sends in their details.

Needless to say I've filled them in and posted them online, not me guv, I sold the car on 2th September. I'v got copies of DVLA on acknowledgment emails of the transfer or ownership and change on my insurance and a bill of sale showing the part-ex details with all 3 cars on it..

Phew, a close on this afternoon, "the driver" parked my car on DYL in Folkestone while I popped into the chip shop about 50 yards away to place a quick order. I have a blue badge and that was clearly displayed. But then noticed the blips on the kerb! The chip shop was quickly done and went back to the car as quick as I could move which is not at the moment very easy due to a trapped nerve in my leg!

About 2 car lengths away I saw the ominous figure of the local Civil Enforcement Officer doing a quick march down the street towards my car. I shouted out to him and he stopped in his tracks. He said something like "you got a blue badge, you should know the rules, I should give you this ticket". He didn't so I got in the car and made a hasty retreat. He wandered off up the street and booked someone else. He certainly couldn't have made a 2 minute observation. Let's wait and see.
