Author Topic: SIP Parking Ticket - Wrong Car Reg Number Entered - Manchester  (Read 255 times)

Hi all, I hired a car while my own vehicle is being repaired after a recent accident.

A couple of days ago, the driver of my hired car parked in a private car park in Manchester managed by SiP and paid for the correct amount of parking time using the PayByPhone mobile app. However, the driver accidentally used the wrong car registration number instead of the hired car’s reg number when paying.

If there is proof of payment for the correct time (under the wrong reg), what should the driver do? No Parking Charge Notice has arrived yet, but the driver is worried one will be issued.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Should the driver proactively contact SiP, or wait to see if a PCN comes through? Any advice on how best to handle this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Read https://www.ftla.uk/private-parking-tickets/read-this-first-private-parking-charges-forum-guide/ and modify your post as advised so you no longer identify the driver.

Then wait until you receive a Notice to Hirer from SIP, report back here on exactly what you receive when you do.

It is likely it will fail to comply with the legislation to hold the hirer responsible. In which case you follow advice here and pay £0.

If it actually does comply with the legislation, you will still have the option of a £20 payment for a “keying error”.

Do not contact SIP in any way. Above all, do not identify who the driver was at any time.
