Parking eye PCN
« on: »
Hi all,

The driver visited a retail complex with multiple stores on 12/06/2024. This was not the first time shopping at this location.

Today, 24/06/2024, we received the attached letter regarding that visit.

I understand there are several similar threads on this topic, but I’ve started a new one to track this particular case and receive advice tailored to our situation.

Any guidance or support would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Back of the notice, signage, any context as to how and why the charge was incurred...

It was not the first time in this parking area by the driver and the driver never noticed anything related to paying to park and no letter received prior to today.

It was a surprise to receive a letter from the parking eye today.

The place is a bit far and it will be difficult to go there today to check if there are any parking rules in the parking area.

Thank you

Assuming the driver shopped at the Lidl with which the car park is associated, speaking to the management of the store is a good first bet, escalating as necessary. It's by far the easiest way to get the charge cancelled.

If that doesn't work and you find yourself getting close to the deadline, I'd say there's a decent argument to be made that they have not complied with the requirements of Schedule 4 of the Protection of Freedoms Act and therefore cannot hold the keeper liable. Specifically, they have failed to specify the location where the parking incident to place - the notice refers only to "Lidl Barnsley", but according to Lidl's website there are 2 stores in Barnsley.

Do you advise the driver approach the Lidl management first?

Thank you

Yes, contact a manager at the store. Include the reference number and ask that it is cancelled - attach your recipt or the transaction from your bank to prove being a customer.

If done in person, get an email to get confirmation in writing that it has been cancelled just in case Parkingeye attempt to still try and recover the cost.

The keeper can do so, no need to say who was driving.

Easy one to beat at POPLA as the relevant land is not defined, in breach of PoFA 9(2)(a).

Which Lidl Barnsley?

Lidl, Wakefield Rd, Mapplewell, Barnsley S75 6DJ
Lidl, Peel St, Barnsley S70 2RE
Lidl, Mitchells Way, Wombwell, Barnsley S73 8DS

Good afternoon,

The registered keeper visited the store this afternoon and spoke with the manager regarding the parking issue. However, the manager advised that the matter must be taken up directly with ParkingEye.

During the conversation, the manager pointed out a machine located near the checkout area, which is intended for customers to register their vehicle details after shopping.

The registered keeper admitted they had always assumed the machine was part of the checkout system and did not realise it was for parking registration.

Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

Don't accept the fob-off from the manager. Go straight to the top of the management food chain, the CEO, Ryan McDonnell.

Have a search of the forum as very recently we advised someone else to do this and it was successfully cancelled.

Thank you

I just searched and found some useful thread about it.

I have sent a message to the contact us as seen on the thread and I have received a confirmation email promising to get back in 24 hours.

I have also drafted the email below for the CEO

"Dear Mr. Ryan McDonnell,

I hope this email finds you well.

I’m writing to you not just as a concerned customer, but as a loyal supporter of Lidl for over 7 years — both in the UK and previously in France. I've regularly shopped at Lidl branches in Middlesbrough, Scarborough, Barnsley, and Wombwell, and I’ve always appreciated the value, quality, and service your stores consistently deliver.

Unfortunately, I recently received a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) from ParkingEye following a visit to your Barnsley store on 12th June 2025. I had simply gone there to do my usual shopping. The notice, which I received yesterday, claims a charge of £90 for overstaying, despite my being a genuine paying customer.

This is the first time I’ve ever experienced anything like this in my long relationship with Lidl. I’ve attached a copy of my receipt from that day, along with the PCN for your reference.

I kindly ask for your support in helping to cancel this charge, as it feels unfair and discouraging — especially for a customer who has remained consistently loyal to the Lidl brand. I deeply value the relationship I have with Lidl and would be grateful for your help in preserving the trust I’ve had in the company over the years.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from your team.

Warm regards"
