Moorside legal
« on: »
Hi. Looking for some advice on this one please. Back in February I paid for and parked in Gatwick short stay car park for 5 days. On my return home I shortly received a £100 parking fine. As I had pre paid, I assumed it was an admin error so appealed it and didn’t hear anything so thought all was well. I then received a £170 invoice from a debt company stating as I had ignored the appeal response, they had taken over and increased the invoice to £170. I contacted them and stated that I had not had a response from the appeal. They informed me that the response was sent to an incorrect email address supplied by me. They claimed I put UM instead of UK at the end of my email address. I do not recall ever supplying an email address and definitely would not mis-spell it. They said that the appeal stated I was initially fined as I had parked in an “express loading” bay and not a standard bay but as a gesture of goodwill they would accept £20. I obviously would not have ignored this. The company said I could not pay the £20 now as I had not replied and still owe £170. I informed them that I would not be paying. Today I received a letter from Moorside legal requesting £170 before further action. I think I’m being scammed here and would like some advice. Thank you.

You were not “fined”, you were invoiced for payment under the contract the driver entered into by parking.
That said, please show us what you can.

In your appeal, did you identify the driver? Did you use words like “I”?
Moorside Legal’s Letters of Claim are dreadful, but you should reply to them.
You’re not being “scammed”, there is a legal process and it needs to be followed by both parties.
