HELP - Waitrose Britannia Parking
« on: »
Hello everyone,

Looking for some support to manage a situation with Britannia parking.

I have received a Parking Charge Notice to Keeper following a recent shop at my regular Waitrose on January 31st. Despite being a loyal, frequent customer, I've been slapped with a £70 penalty for exceeding the parking time by a mere four minutes! The notice, dated February 7th, didn't arrive until February 14th.

I remember the day in question and my shop continued far longer than expected due to a challenging time with my son who was "helping me"...

I have seen elsewhere on this site other people have successfully fought these charges so I would appreciate your words of wisdom!

Thank you soo much everyone.

This sounds like it's a private Parking Charge Notice as opposed to a Council Penalty Charge Notice.

If it is private then please ask a Moderator to move it to the private parking sub-forum. The Report to moderator button is at the bottom right of your post.

READ THIS FIRST - **BEFORE POSTING YOUR CASE!**,

you first post of call is the waitrose manager (not any old customer service bod)
explain as a loyal  customer you dont expect to get a charge for your loyalty. and ask them to get it cancelled.
refer to "the driver" getting the ticket.

As above... Plan A is always to get the landowner or their managing agent to get the Parking Charge Notice (PCN) cancelled.

The only caveat is that as the Keeper who has received the PCN which was sent as a postal Notice to Keeper (NtK), Britannia has no idea who was driving. The Keeper and the driver are separate legal entities and if Britannia has not fully complied with all the requirements of PoFA, then they cannot transfer liability for the charge from the unknown driver to you, the known Keeper.

When you make your complaint to Waitrose, you do so only as the Keeper who has received the speculative invoice from the unregulated private parking company. Only refer to the driver in the third person. No “I parked here or there”. Only “Themdriver parked here or there”.

However, please show us both sides of the NtK you received. Only redact your personal info and the PCN number. Leave all dates and times visible. This will allow us to advise on what steps to take for plans B, C and D if plan A does not work.

Some good news...i spoke to Waitrose and once i had shown them the receipt proving i had shopped at the store on the date of the penalty, they contacted their provider to remove the penalty. Hopefully that is the end of the matter.

Thank you to everyone on this forum for your help!!!

It's not and never was a "penalty". Only a speculative invoice.

Do you have it writing that they have requested the PCN be cancelled? A phone call is not worth the paper it isn't written on and you wouldn't be the first to come back in a few weeks or months wondering why they were still being chased for an alleged debt.
