WIN at Bedford County court against ULEZ charges
« on: March 20, 2025, 08:02:45 pm »
I've just picked up on this thread from the anti-ULEZ group on Facebook. It seems a campaigner has won in the county court against TfL where the judge has ruled the TfL signs are illegal and fines totalling "a lot of money" will have to be repaid. I can't get the video to download properly from youtube, maybe others will have better luck.

Apart from the usual ranting from some of the anti-lez people it will be interesting to see the transcript of the judgement.
Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.

Having tolerated 58 seconds of unidentified activists discussing their extrapolations of the uncited judgment, I was able to ascertain that the case was decided by "a District Judge". Whether that is "*the* District Judge" or "a Deputy District Judge" seems to be of minor consequence beyond that particular district.

Having seen how first hand how Swift Justice can be to bend over backwards to pervert the law in TfL's favour in the High Court, I struggle to see this as anything more than a minor victory for one motorist.

My thoughts are along those lines. a badly-edited and presented video on youtube doesn't help matters. These anti-ulez people are assuming one county court judgement will apply to all; they are about to be sorely disappointed.

There's been a case in the Courts of Justice in London today, not sure if it's related to this case as it's a similarly badly-presented youtube video on the anti-ULEZ FB group, but a scaffolder has won his case is now having his day in the court. Something to do with 2002 and 2016 laws, it's all a bit shouty in the video. No doubt the court will need time to consider the cse, so I don't expect to hear any results today.

Presumably 2002 and 2016 laws are the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002, and the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016?

purpose of yesterday's hearing at 5:30 onwards.

Application was for confirmation of earlier judgment that LEZ signs unlawful.

Presumably ruling will come later.
