Excel Parking - Overcharged
« on: »
I parked at a site in Lincoln on the 17/11/25 and selected the night fee of £3 to park and swiped my card to pay. However, when the ticket printed I had been charged £9 for 24 hours.
I phoned their helpline and was advised there was nothing they could do, I just needed to email them as a company.
I have now sent 4 emails to the company (no response) and despite speaking to someone in their customer service department who advised someone would phone me back, I am still waiting.
Any advice on how to claim the £6 back.  to goto Small Claims Court is £35 which I feel I may have to use.
It is the principle as if it was the other way around, I am sure the fee would have risen by now and court papers served.

Can you show us the ticket?

It would also be useful to know of any evidence you might have to demonstrate that the alleged over-charging was due to their machine as opposed to human error, for example.

County Court works to a lower standard of proof than the criminal courts ("balance of probabilities" as opposed to "beyond reasonable doubt"), but as you would be the claimant it would be for you to prove your case to that standard.

Most helpful thank you.  I have no proof that it was the machine.  The first I knew I had been charged the £9 was when the ticket printed out.  I will just have to write the £6 off and not park there again.

There are other steps you can take to escalate things other than court... If you've sent a formal complaint and they've not responded, you can escalate your complaint to the IPC. They're generslly fairly useless, but it costs you nothing to try.
