Private parking tickets / PCN - Could not enter registration
« on: Today at 07:33:31 pm »
I entered a small car park on private land. As I parked a lady nearby was muttering about only having cash (cashless only) and drove off. I approached the meter, saw a payment prompt, and got a ticket.
Then I got a PCN.
Later, turns out, the lady abandoned her transaction. I re-created the meter screen as shown in the image. I did not notice the small registration in the very top right, and had no way to know what it represented. This screen stays on for 4 minutes (I checked later) if left unattended. I just pressed the green tick and paid the £2.00 daily charge. I have the ticket and transaction evidence but the appeal was rejected. I was not prompted to enter my own registration, so could not meet the contract conditions.
The operator could check the registration with the lady who entered before me, and left after I arrived, but didn't bother.
The user interface is unclear and 4 mins is a long time to keep a transaction hanging. Shall I wait for them to take it to court? I see no guidance on mitigation for this scenario in the code of practice. image link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uvNlAf7M5EqgD5unPuCHIqHHXm6Aeo6C/view?usp=sharing
