I paid for 2 hours parking on 05/05/25 in haven banks retail park. I have been issued a parking fine for overstaying by 19 minutes. May I just point out that this supposed overstay has been clocked from the time I entered the car park and NOT from the time I paid for a parking ticket. Am I not within my rights to take my time to find a suitable parking space, take time to safely park my car without the worry of being timed in the process?
I also had my 2 children with me who are still in childs car seats that take time to get them in and out off before I can even think about getting to the ticket machine to buy a ticket. I then have to return to the car to remove the childrens bikes from the boot so they can go for a bike ride along the river. Then upon returning to the car WITHIN my 2 hour parking time, my children decide they need to use the potty before leaving. Once thats sorted, I then have to strap them both into their seats, put their bikes in the boot, get myself strapped into the car, start the car and safely leave.
Smart parking state that they allow a 10 minute grace period from the end of the parking charge expiry to the point of leaving the car park. Should this 10 minute grace period not apply upon entry to the car park aswell? Common sense and decency suggest it should. Therefore, I was within my 10 minute grace period either side of my PAID 2 hour parking. I would therefore ask that this parking fine be discarded as unfairly issued, especially considering it has been A.I. generated by a computer that has no concept of living in the real world. Thank you.
