Hi,
I hope you are all well.
On Sunday, 23 February 2025, my wife and I went for a day out in central London. We decided to take the train so drove to our local station, Gidea Park, and parked in a bay outside the main entrance. The signage read: “Mon-Sat, 8:30am-6:30pm, Pay by phone, 01708 201 311 quoting location 41913, Max stay 3 hours, No return within 2 hours”. I assumed that since it was a Sunday, the restrictions did not apply. However, when we returned, I found a Penalty Charge Notice on my van.
I believe I abided by the terms of the parking sign and therefore no infraction occurred. Could someone please advise?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

This certainly does look like a CEO error, because the sign applies Mon-Saturday only. If they had wanted the max parking sign to apply on every day, they should have placed a separate parking sign for the parking times and days, then a sign for the days that payment is required.

You should now submit representations on the basis that the contravention did not occur, and point out that the sign applies Monday to Saturday only.

It's poorly signed but the bay you were in is a 5 minute drop off bay.

I'm not sure a no stopping with an exception like this is allowed (usually exceptions are taxis/buses) and if it is maybe the bay should be marked with some kind of legend. They could have used a normal parking bay sign with a time limit.

The sign for the bay to the right that you relied on is far more obvious.
