Your opinion.
« on: November 02, 2023, 02:29:42 pm »
Hi
Quick question, there is a large company that deals with security issues in my neck of the woods that for years has been solely using an assortment of young black models/actors in all its social media platforms describing local crimes ie a picture of a black man breaking into houses/blackman committing knife crimes/blackman committing anti social behaviour/blackman commiting street robberies (5 videos in this case).
I contacted them about their policy of only using just one section of a multicultural society to be portrayed as the only criminals out there and politely pointed out that this is egregious behaviour that is obviously racist in nature. This ended up at manager level who replied back that their policy of only hiring young black models/actors wasn´t in fact racist and they were going to carry on with their policy.
The question is this,,,,,, do you think this policy is actually racist, that´s all I´m asking as I don´t want to see myself as being a touch sensitive re race relations.

 Cheers

PS not going to name the company just yet as I´m giving them all the rope they need to hang themselves over this.

You're right, definitely discriminatory to only employ young black actors.
Why aren't they giving young women or the elderly chance to mug someone?

On a more serious note, this seems like a wind up, if you are not prepared to name so we may investigate and form an informed opinion, I ain't playing.

I can assure you this is NOT a wind up (pretty weird wind up), this is still on going as like I said I´m giving them enough rope etc, just want an opinion as to it being racist or not.

Without all the facts it is impossible to express a view.

If that is indeed the company's recruitment policy, it seems a clear breach of the Equality Act.

As for the videos, why not see what the Advertising Standards Authority think?

If the area they cover is premdominantly 'black' and/or the substantial majority of the crimes they prevent were intended to be perpetrated by black folk - then no (in theory). In reality in anenvironment where a large number of criticisms of black folk are labelled 'racist' by the Woke community............then yes!

........

IIRC Actors and models are exempted within the media industry where there is a specific requirement for race or sex or other protected characteristic.
A breach could possibly be argued if the characteristic was constantly being sought with no suitable reason.
But it isn't a breach for example to specify a young white girl to play Snow White.

Correct - in terms of employment but actors are seldom employed and it'd need a non-black person to raise a case? Hard to see the authenticity argument holding water though?
