Hello.

In receipt of Single Justice Procedural Notice.
Speeding ticket
37 in a 30
(Apparently just this month, that road A1 Archway London has been reduced to 20mpg)

Incident Date: 12/08/2025
SJN letter dated: 28/01/2026
Letter received: 13/02/2026

1. Is this a legal timeframe or has Met Police been delinquent in posting to me? Can this incident be canceled because of these timings? Or should I not even mention this in my rebuttal?

2. Police Witness Statement says I was sent a Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty on 18/09/2025. But I failed to meet requirements by not paying and failing to provide license details.
3. As result, Fixed Penalty was withdrawn.
4. Matter then referred to Prosecution Team for SJN, as outlined above.
5. Police continues to say: ‘I am unable to provide any technical evidence concerning the original offence. In the event you wish to challenge original evidence you should request the attendance of a police officer’

So:
-I received letter from Met police dated 22/10 stating:
Thank you for your recent communication…. The police are satisfied…. You have already been sent a conditional offer of fixed penalty…. On this occasion, it is open to you to withhold payment…

In due course, court proceedings would be initiated.

DOES THIS PROVE THAT I DID RESPOND TO THE CONDITIONAL OFFER AND SJN Witness statement is INCORRECT?

PLUS I have Royal Mail receipt for proof of posting re: this incident.

ALSO: Should I request Police attendance?

Anything here to get this speeding ticket canceled?

Thank you for guidance.
Much appreciated

Unfortunately, Doris Stokes and Mystic Meg have both passed to the other side, leaving us with no way to contact either of them to find out what happened.

The police had 6 months to instigate proceedings - which is done by issuing a Written Charge and Single Justice Procedure Notice. They usually then take a couple of weeks to collate the initial evidence bundle before getting around to posting it to you.

Please refrain from SHOUTING. Whether edited highlights prove that something the statement never claimed happened didn't happen is mostly irrelevant, as merely "responding" in and of itself is meaningless. If you want meaningful advice, try telling us what actually happened, rather than just the highlights that are raising your blood pressure.

Apologies. Caps in post was not meant to be shouting but to highlight my questions & concerns. I’ll know better next time. (I pray this is my only time here)

Meanwhile, I question what the police witness wrote and how/if that affects my case. Also timings. Is the six months to issue the SJN hard and fast? Or is the posting of the SJN two weeks shy of six calendar months good enough to have this canceled? Especially as it arrived to me a few days after the six month window. No proof on arrival however. No date stamp on the envelope.
Appreciate direction here.
Big thanks!

Based on the dates, it appears they started the SJPN process at the end of January, so in plenty of time. When you received it is largely irrelevant.

You appear to be repeating your question without telling us what happened.

Whether or not you were offered a fixed penalty and whether or not (or how) you responded has no relevance to the position you are in now. The police have issued court proceedings and they will be followed through. What happened with the fixed penalty offer might, however, influence how you are sentenced and possibly even your plea.

There is nothing to challenge on the basis of the timeframe. As above, the police have six months to begin proceedings and they have met that deadline.

You should have been provided with the evidence the police intend to rely on to convict you of speeding. Do you have that? Is there anything contained in it with which you do not agree (leaving aside the fixed penalty issue)?

As far as the fixed penalty offer goes, we need to know what you received and when together with how you responded and when.

Whether or not you were offered a fixed penalty and whether or not (or how) you responded has no relevance to the position you are in now.

*If* the OP complied with the statutory requirements to accept the offer of a fixed penalty, then the prosecution would be statute barred, which IMHO would have quite a lot of relevance. However, this thread is currently somewhat light on relevant facts.

What did your 'recent communication' say?

If you work on the principle of bullshit in/bullshit out, the answer to this may determine what your next course of action could be. If you choose not to tell us that is your right, but the advice available will be limited to the information given.

@Save my License

1.  You haven't actually said but presumably you received the COFP the police say they sent you on 18 September?
2.  Again presumably, you paid it?
3.  When paying it did you also provide the required driving licence details?
4.  Did you keep a copy of what you told them?
5.  How many points - if any - did you have on your licence on 12 August?

Thanks for feedback everyone. SJPN now replied to. I await the verdict! Cheers

What plea did you enter?
