Speeding fine

Looking for advice, unsure if this is the right site due to it being a speeding fine..
please delete if not.

letter received from police to say caught speeding back in September 2023 and because those letters went unanswered due to the logbook being in the old address, yet drivers license was changed, it went to court.
6 points! Previously clean for 30+ years
And £1026 fine.
Logbook no where to be seen.
Can anything be done.

I’ll try to guess what’s happened.


I reckon you have been convicted of “Failing to provide driver’s details” (FtP).

You firstly need to perform a Statutory Declaration to have your conviction set aside. Proceedings will then begin again and with any luck you will have been charged with speeding as well as FtP. With a bit more luck – and provided you were the driver at the time -  you may be able to persuade the prosecutor to discontinue the FtP charge in return for agreeing to plead guilty to speeding.

I’m sorry new to all this …
A notice of intended prosecution was sent to the registered address held by DVLA, then a second reminder, unfortunately that was an old address. Then I was found guilty of failing to provide information, 6 points and a fine was issued at the old address,
I received a police letter today, stating all of this.
My logbook was never changed into the new address, which I thought was done when my driver’s license was done.
Hope that explains a tad more, apologies.

The logbook and driving licence are separate. You would need to update both when you move homes.

Some vehicle are under lease which the leasing company hold the logbook (V5C) it makes no sense to update the logbook when you update the driving licence if the leasing company move business.
