Received "Final Reminder" but NOT Initial NIP.
« on: »
I yesterday received a "final reminder" letter dated 1/11/24 for a NIP I never received. It is giving me 7 days to respond/identify the driver. With today being the 7th day I will have already missed the deadline by time they receive my response with driver identification.

What is my best course of action right now? Thanks in advance.

(I will note, in my 14 years of driving this my 1st time ever receiving any kind of speeding ticket, so this is all new to me.)

you must return a s172 naming the driver

does it have details of alleged offence? are they correct?
we're you there at the relevant time?
we're you the driver?

call them NOW explain you've only recived a "reminder" and that it turned up on day 7 and that you are returning it without delay.

does it have details of alleged offence? Yes are they correct? Possibly, I do not recall speeding.

How do I call them? There is no phone number on the letter.
And will that keep me from further trouble?

How do I call them?

With a telephone. If you mean, what is their number, try Google.

Is your V5C up to date?

V5C is up to date. Who do I call? Met Police? (Letter is issued by them) Excuse my ignorance, this is all new to me.

I had assumed from the location stated in the letter that I was caught by a fixed yellow box speed camera as I know one exists there. However, upon logging in to see the photo evidence I was surprised to see it is a front facing image.

Does that mean it was taken by some sort of mobile speed gun, and if so are these any easier to challenge?

Anyone? How can I tell what sort of device clocked me?

Does it really matter? They’re all assumed to be working correctly unless you can prove otherwise. However, it seems like a mobile camera van, so probably an LTi 2020 or similar.

Your overwhelming priority at present is to persuade the police not to take proceedings against you for "failing to provide driver's details" within the time allowed. Unless you do that the speeding offence becomes irrelevant and it will not matter what type of device was used.

Did you manage to contact the police?

I've received the letter inviting me to take the speed awareness course.

It's being offered via a long list of course providers. Is there any recommended one I should pick? (I'd be taking a virtual course)
