NIP Time limits
« on: »
Hi, First time poster looking for a little advice.
Today I received an NIP for speeding in a variable speed zone. I actually remember doing this so I guess thats it. How ever I have a couple of questions.

1) The tickets issue date is the 20.01.25 and the date of offence was 05.01.25 so thats 15days, I remember they only have 14days to issue an NIP so im thinking..... This is probably because it was a company vehicle and the NIP first went to the employer/registered keeper who provided my details.  Is this correct or are they a day late Issuing it.

2) As I said I remember this happening and saw the camera flash in my mirrors, I actually thought I was in a 50 but as I passed the gantry I saw it was 40 but all too late, when it flashed I checked my speed and it said 44mph, Im driving HGV so calibrated speedo but the ticket has come in at 46mph. Heres the thing I have the whole thing on dash cam and was wondering if there is any way to confirm my speed from the footage.

Finally Im not to bothered about a speeding ticket its an occupational hazard and its been a very long time since my last one. BUT I do like things to be right, I play by the rules and so must they, so if they have issued this incorrectly then I will dispute it.

Ive attached the NIP for your attention.

Only the first notice (usually the registered Keeper) has the 14 day requirement, subsequent notices have no such requirement. So if yours is the 2nd notice, clearly the first must have been served within 14 days on the RK. So no get out clause there.

I suspect the speed is correct, it's common for drivers to come off the throttle when flashed and then look at their speed. If this is a HADECS3 camera, you cannot manually verify the speed AFAIK.

Also, the offence is exceeding the speed limit. The penalty for 44 would be exactly the same as for 46.

Thanks again, As I said its been a long time, I have just admitted the offence and its quite interesting reading , you can view all photo's and calibration certs online, Things have definitely moved on, and I guess theres no 10 percent plus 2mph any more either.

Whatchu talking about Willis?

Enforcement starts at a recorded speed of 10% +2mph above the speed limit.
Prior to hypothecation (more than 20 years ago), enforcement typically started above that threshold. So, if that's what you mean, you must have been "gone" a very long time - as in before PePiPoo even started.
I am responsible for the accuracy of the information I post, not your ability to comprehend it.

Well I really dont have the ability to comprehend That but thanks for trying to explain it.

All a mute point now as I have held my hands up and will take the medicine, hopefully a speed awareness course.
