NIP sent to insured driver
« on: »
England

I am insured on my mum's car. I received a NIP, specifically in my name, but I was not the driver at the time (it was my brother who is also insured) nor am I the RK.

I don't see why this is being sent to me and not the RK? Is this even valid?

Yes, it is valid. You need to name your brother.

The NIP itself cannot satisfy the requirements of s. 1 RTOA 1988 to serve a notice on the RK or driver within the 14 days.
Fortunately, the OP has chosen not to trouble us with sufficient information to determine whether a NIP is required.

As has been stated, the s. 172 requirement to name the diver remains valid regardless.

It sounds as if the RK has nominated you as the driver but from a practical point of view that is fairly irrelevant.

You simply need to respond the the s.172 notice naming your brother, that is all.
