NIP for variable limit M4

I am pretty careful now due to all the 20mph zones in London but got caught out by a variable speed limit on the M4. The NIP says I was doing 70 in a 60 zone. I prob know the answer, but my question is that since the forward camera on my car didn't pick up the change in limit it continued to display 70 as the speed limit on my instrument panel. Any chance I could use that as a mitigating reason with the Met?
Second question, I did a speed awareness course earlier this year for a penalty in London, someone told me that its a different course for motorways and I might be offered another course? Seems unlikely to me but anyone have any such experience?

You have the NIP. The only option you have is to reply naming the driver.

You will then receive the offer of a fixed penalty or course**. The only way you can use "mitigation" is to refuse the offer(s) and go to court, where you will almost certainly be found guilty at considerable cost.

You are expected to read the (large and highly visible) signs, not rely on your car's tech.

Mitigation, that mitigates the seriousness of an offences you are guilty of only helps when it gets to court with variable sentencing. As the police will either offer a course (all but certain unless you have done one in the last three years) or a fixed penalty then the mitigation cannot help.

However even very good mitigation in court would result in you owing more than the fixed penalty.

The National Motorway Awareness Course is alive and kicking, I completed one less than a week ago.

It is distinct from the regular speed awareness course.

I wouldn't, your task as driver is to remain alert, observe and respond to signs, not rely upon in-car tech. Your suggestion is leading with the chin of 'I wasn't paying attention to what was happening outside my car'.

Alexa, tell me when the speed limit changes won't wash I'm afraid.
