Fpn error on notice
« on: »
Hi 1st time posting, posting on behalf of son he is also a new driver
He got stopped by police for cutting a corner in the early hours of morning.
Got a green slip for fixed penalty. This happened on 28/09/24 got the conditional offer of £100 fine & 3 points letter dated 28/10/24
Read on here to take the offer, went to pay it but noticed the car reg is wrong they have added an extra number in to the reg and dated the offence of the date of the letter 28/10/24 not the date it happened on 28/9/24.
Phoned the dept dealing with it and the said it could be a mistake,
Do I pay it as normal with it been wrong. Time limited to pay so thanks in advance.

If the FPN isn’t taken up then the police are likely to prosecute for the original offence. Unless he has a defence to that, being prosecuted is likely to cost more than the FPN.
I am not qualified to give legal advice in the UK. While I will do my best to help you, you should not rely on my advice as if it was given by a lawyer qualified in the UK.

If your son doesn't pay it, the police will simply pass the case to the courts. The mistake(s) on the COFP do not provide a defence to the speeding charge.

BTW when he pays, your son must not forget to supply his licence details.

My concern is with the date off offence been wrong in the letter, that I will pay fine & send licence details in for points and that at some point it may come back properly and he gets 2 lots of fines and points and loses his licence
Because when I go to pay the dates wont match up to the date of offence

Could it be a different offence? It's not entirely unknown for parents to be given a selective version of events.

You're overthinking this. At a guess, this is connected to the fact that you are dealing with this on his behalf. If he's driving, pretend that he's a grown up and let him look after himself. I appreciate that modern things like the internet can be challenging for young adults, but think of it as developing life skills. And not playing chinese whsipers.

The case will have a unique reference number. If the COFP is accepted (including providing the identification details), the case will be closed. They don't go round at the end of the week trying to tally paid COFP receipts with offence dates.

If it does somehow slip through the net, he would have a defence of having already disposed of liability for the offence by accepting the COFP.
I am responsible for the accuracy of the information I post, not your ability to comprehend it.

Thanks for the replies, got the fpn details changed so they match the offence, fine paid letter with license details posted today. Btw my son didn’t ask me to post anywhere.
All done now though.
