A52 Clifton Boulevard (near Canal Bridge) - 57mph in a 40mph
« on: October 31, 2024, 12:23:18 am »
Hi folks,

Hoping you can offer us some advice.
Date of Offence 26.10.2024
NIP arrived Tues 29.10.2024
Location as stated on NIP: A52 Clifton Boulevard (near Canal Bridge)
Recorded: 57 mph in a 40 mph

We are not sure where exactly this location is, as a large part of this section of dual carriage way is 50mph.  It is 40mph where we join coming from Clifton Lane (from West Bridgford) here:
A52 Entry point
(Tip: if using above link, seems to be a glitch if you click to move forward using the street view photo - it takes you on to the other side, had to use the street map below to move along.)

It very quickly becomes 50mph here:
A52 50mph

The photo they have on their website, doesn't show the broader picture to give an idea where the location is.  Trying to understand whether this is near the entry point to the dual carriage way - which turns into a bridge that goes over a canal.  Hence, we are thinking it is around here, however, looking at the photo, doesn't seem to much the scene, we are struggling to figure out where this was taken.  It also fairly quickly becomes a 50mph. It does eventually go back to 40mph near the QMC hospital.  But that is much further away.

Would it be fair to say the images they have on their website would be all the images that would be available.  Should our first port of call be to contact them and ask for the exact location?

Any advice on whether there would be any mitigating circumstances saying this was very close to being 50 mph zone - assuming they have correctly captured us in a 40mph zone?

If an argument could be made for a 50mph zone - would that make a SAC possible perhaps?
Any ideas on what the penalty for this sort offence would be please?

Is there any help you could think of that would help in this situation please?

Thank you and we are grateful for any help and advice you can give us.

The A52 does cross the Nottingham Canal near the Queens Medical Centre, see https://www.google.com/maps/search/Canal+Bridge,+Nottingham/@52.9400553,-1.1787867,15z?authuser=0&entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTAyNy4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

Thanks, I was looking looking at the river trent near the entry point where it goes from 40mph to 50mph.
The above being the Beeston Canal, where it goes from 50mph to 40mph, makes more sense. But very below the belt tactics by the Police, still same dual carriageway, wonder how far in from change of limit they took they pic.

Take it SAC out of the question and will be 3 points + fine?

Yes, up to 53 in a 40 unfortunately.

At 57mph, you would also have been prosecuted if you were in a 50mph limit so I'm not sure how below the belt this is.
