70mph in a 40mph zone SJPN
« on: »
I was stopped by police for speeding 70mph in a 40mph zone.
I have no points and have been driving for almost three years. Is it best for me to opt to go to court or should I opt not to and fill in my plea by post?
Anyone know what the potential outcomes of this might be?
Thank you.

66+ in a 40 is band C - 150% Relevant Weekly Income (100% RWI with discount for early guilty plea), 7 - 56 day ban or 6 points and ~£90 prosecution costs.

If the SJ thinks that a ban should be considered, he will refer the case for a hearing - so if you opt to be dealt with under the SJP he will either gibe you 6 points (and fine and costs), or you will be going to court anyway.

The outcome for me was that I got 6 points and a fine. No court appearance was necessary

Lucky you. :)
Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.

Yes, I do lots of charity with my car and included all the details in my plea. Thank G-d.  :)
