Hi everyone. This was received this in the mail last week.

For context, the driver charged an electric car May 2025 in the same spot on 2 separate occasions when travelling to and from home and didn’t realise you also HAD to pay for parking (which I personally think is a joke). The driver received a letter about this matter last summer but then moved house and it completely slipped their mind. They have probably been sending letters to the old house and the driver hasn’t been receiving the mail.

The driver received this letter (attached) this week and wanted to know their options.

Links to the letters -

The driver has asked mates (not legal advice) and they have given a mixture of ignore it as it’s a private parking fine and the driver should pay it.

Hoping to get some advice on here :)

Thanks in advance!

DCBL can be ignored, but this will progress to a Letter of Claim and a county court claim from DCB Legal which can’t.
In due course you will need to defend this in court. If defended, DCB Legal usually discontinues at the last moment.
In order to defend, you may need the original Parking Charge Notice. If you don’t have this, you may want to request it via a Subject Access Request to the parking company (Parking Eye, not DCBL).

Thanks for the reply. So request the original PCN from parking eye.

I was tempted to email the debt collection agency and say I’m happy to pay the original parking fines but not the extra on top as I moved house and haven’t been receiving letters etc.

They won’t care.
DCBL is on a percentage of the money they get from you and won’t settle for anything less.
Do not engage them in any way.

If I engage you to collect £100 on my behalf on the basis that I’ll pay you £30 if you do, would you accept 3 beans and a bent penny instead?

Update your V5C if you haven’t done so by now; it’s a criminal offence not to although it’s rarely prosecuted.

Thanks for the info. The driver has just requested the original PCN’s from parking eye. Out of interest, what is the next step after getting the original PCN’s?

Post the PCNs here when you get them.

Send a data rectification notice to Parkingeye informing them if your current address and telling them to update your address for service and to erase any old addresses they hold.

It's best not to refer to the driver - presumably you are the reg keeper? Or is this a leased car?

You are likely to get a court claim, N1SDT, from DCB Legal which you need to defend.

Research by searching the forum on what then happens. Ultimately, usually, DCB Legal discontinues rather than paying the court fee but you have to defend it until then.

A slight digression  but I was wondering how Parking Eye were involved as Wentworth Street car park is managed by Brittania Parking but I see it's actually for Park Inn by Raddison (the old BT offices and telephone exchange) where public parking is available, hotel guests receive complimentary parking.

All I needed to do was go in and tell the hotel I was charging and they give you free parking! I don’t know if that changes it at all

Have you asked the hotel to instruct the parking company to cancel the charge? If not, that would be a sensible first step.

I have not! I will do that this evening.

Just by simply reaching out and asking them to email parking eye?
