PCN from group nexus
« on: »
The driver parked at a  hospital due to baby needing to go into A and E.

They were in there over  2 hours and had no charge on phone so was not able to pay on exit  when needing to pick other child up( usually uses G wallet).

It was 23/1/26(Friday). They explained this to reception who told them to ring back the next day to pay, but the next day was Saturday and they  wasn't available until Monday. At this point they said it was too late and to call when a PCN had arrived.

They phoned them and explained they could no longer cancel the tickets and I would have to appeal to the company explaining what had happened, and come back to them if that failed.

However  at this point there is an impasse.

Should they appeal as the hospital have said, thus  naming themselves as the driver or use a template provided by this site that I have seen before that does not name the driver.

Am I right in thinking regardless of the circumstance parking companies will reject initial appeals as par the course?

Here is a picture of the PCN via link.

Thanks.

Approach PALS at the hospital who generally have a good track record at sorting this type of thing out.

I think This was who they said to approach after the initial appeal. However if I make the appeal have I lost the chance to follow the protocol on here? Thanks

No you can appeal as the keeper, you don't need to name the driver, just refer to them in the 3rd party. Unfortunately I don't think your appeal grounds of having a flat phone battery is going to win an appeal with Group Nexus if the hospital won't cancel it. They will hear stories like this every day so in abstract some compassion is due in hearing stories like this however few people vist a hospital for fun reasons, everyone there is usually in some form of distress so sympathy will be in short supply.

You can probably avoid paying this but you will need to appeal to Group Nexus, appeal to POPLA, ignore multiple debt collectors letters and eventually engage in the court process. At that point they usually give up before the court hearing.

Would be helpful if you could repost the PCN, showing the date PCN was issued and the back of the PCN.

Just an update here.

I appealed explaining the situation as it was and they cancelled the ticket.

Im sure these companies used to turn down appeals  all of the time before, now they seem to actually listen to peoples extenuating circumstances.

Ah well that's good news, it saves a lot of hassle.
Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.

This is still extremely rare. Just this week we've had someone who had their appeal rejected after their car got a puncture preventing them leaving the car park.

I wonder if their contract with the hospital sets certain stipulations about appeals.

Possibly a hospital thing. This is the second PCN I have had cancelled recently from a hospital, and the first I dont even know why as I had typed in my reg into the machine  at entry. There was no parking  fee usually , but I mustve incorrectly input my details or something.
