Used car problems
« on: October 13, 2024, 09:16:39 am »
A bit of a long story, my 08 Range rover had a lot of work done on it earlier this year, new brakes all round, suspension bushes replaced, a few other bits about £3k of work. A few weeks later it started going into low power mode but would reset after switch off and on again. I took it to my usual indy RR garage who road tested it and informed me the engine failedon a test reun, a problem with no4 injector. It took them 3 days to get the injector out and they found no.4 cylinder full of engine oil. It would cost far more to strip and rebuild the engine so I decided to get a replacement.

That was a 2010 Range Rover Sport from one of their customers bought directly from the customer. It seemed to go all right but it had numerous niggly problems, I simply didn't like the car. So looked on line and found an affordable 10 reg Vogue with a dealer in the High Wycombe area. Arranged to see the car, it had a new MoT and a couple of minor bits to do, but they told me the hand brake module didn't work and parts of the radio system was missing and they would supply and fit a replacement radio. So five weeks down the line they still haven't come up with the replacement radio parts which also combine the vehicle set-up modules, I can't even change the clock! I don't know what should be there as there's 2 empty spaces in the boot locker where it should be.

I fail to see how the car passed an MoT with the parking brake inoperative, a **** mirror and a washer jet not working. They supplied a new mirror, but for the wrong side and I can live without the parking brake while I try to sort the problem. But what are my rights to get the radio problem sorted? My phone calls keep getting blocked or ignored. The dealer syas he gives all his sold cars a 3 month warranty but gives nothing in writing. What's the best way to proceed with this? The dealer is about 100 miles from where I live, it's a day's driving round the M25 to get there and back!
Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.

Hey Roy, regardless of the warranty he supplies your still covered by the CRA 2015. the item (car) has to be fit for purpose. Body module servicing the parking brake falls into that category imo.
try phoning on another phone, but write to them and get responces in writing.

Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Did you really expect to buy an old Range Rover and not find any problems?

Anyway, good luck in getting it sorted out ASAP.

Of course not and not yet. I've sadly owned Range rovers since about 1998, very nice cars when they go right, but ver expensive when they go wrong. My new one, a 52 reg as in "bought factory new" in 2002 cost more in repairs than it did to buy! In the end I was glad to get rid of it. change it for the 08 vogue that died a dath in March, that wasn't too bad except for the huge amount spent on runnig gear prior to engine failure. I managed to get over 25,000 miles out of it and the 52 reg (eventually).

The Sport, less said the better, it was maintained but not looked after, it was literally falling apart! The laterst Vogue is, well, a 2010 car that's got a few prblems but is fairly low mileage at about 130,000 miles. But still missing the radio!! I'll let you know how I get on with the dealer.

One good thing, the number plate might be worth a few bob to the boss of security company, SP10BOS!
