Hi All,

I have a NIP for a car I sold .2 days after sale it was caught speeding . I cannot complete the info required for new keeper info on the NIP form as we just filled out the online DVLA V5. I have submitted the email confirmation and the slip I received through the post to the police but they’re saying as I cannot provide the info of the person I could be prosecuted ! I have tried to contact the guy I sold it to but he’s not answering calls etc. I have emailed the police and they responded with the below

“ Good afternoon,

Thank you for your recent email communication relating to the alleged offence involving vehicle ……….. on 14/04/2026 at 18:18 at A10 between north of Harrow Dr to north of Church St SB N9 (9595).

The ‘Requirement for Name and Address of Driver’ sent by this office has been responded to stating that you are unable to confirm who the vehicle was sold to.
Under the provisions of Section 172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, police may request details of the identity of a driver.  The person to whom such a request is addressed must provide these details or face possible prosecution.  Although various drivers may have access to a particular vehicle this legal obligation is not altered.

A further ‘Requirement for Name and Address of Driver’ is attached, giving you a final opportunity to complete, sign and return it to this office before 27th May 2026.

Please note that your failure to furnish the information required within this timeframe would lead to court proceedings being initiated for that failure.

Regards,”

Any suggestions on my next move now please or am I destined to go court for not bothering with a reciept for a private sold as seen sale.

Thanks in advance

Dom
