Hi there,

Thanks for replying. The location in question isn't highlighted in red on the councils map of CPZs and having driven past the same area last week, there is a clear grey sign that shows you are leaving the CPZ area beyond that point.

Hi everyone, thanks for any assistance you can provide.

I was parked on a single yellow line between the hours of 10.30 and 11.30 which was the enforcement time of the yellow line and received a PCN.

My rebuttal to the council was as follows:

There was no signage about parking restrictions on the side of the road I parked within any reasonable view of the driver's seat. There was nothing on the closest lamppost and 2 other items of street furniture next to and beyond the car.

There was a small sign far away from the driver's seat and on the other side of the road which was extremely faded and particularly on a clear day looked practically blank. And furthermore as it was on the other side of the road there was no indication that the same rules applied on the side of the road I parked on as no signage was visible where I parked.

To enforce this PCN, per Citizens Advice:
All car parks and roads with parking restrictions must have signs or road markings that make this clear. Your ticket should be cancelled if you can prove:
you couldn’t see any road markings or signs
the signs or markings were hard to read – for example they’d faded or were hidden by trees

Both of these criteria are true and the PCN cancelled.

The reply I received from the council was factually incorrect as the Controlled Parking Zone is not in operation in the stretch of road in which I parked and therefore there were no parking bay lines on the road or any other nearby signs indicating operation of the CPZ.

The Google Street view from September 2024 does show a yellow sign indicating times of operation but when I parked in the same space in April 2026 the sign and post had been taken down.

I have already appealed without success and have one more week to either pay the fine or go to the Notice to Owner to then go to the Local Authority.

I am a busy mum of two so I could do without the hassle of this but I feel as the letter from the council was incorrect and the signage not clear I might have a reasonable chance of success.

Thank you for your consideration.
