I'm the registered keeper

The event took place on Sunday 12th April
The driver mistakenly paid for "day parking" which ends at 6pm instead of 24h, and ended up overstaying.
The phone number provided on the website goes directly to voicemail, but I've left a message stating I'm the RK, that the car was parked on that date and the ticket was purchased incorrectly, and that I'd like to pay the difference.

Is there anything I should do, and is there any protection in the legislation for mistakes in attempting to pay where the driver or RK try to rectify after the fact?
