Civil penalty charge notices (Councils, TFL and so on) / PCN bus lane fine - appeal timing question (Scotland)

Hello, I have a question about appealing a PCN/bus lane fine.
I ended up driving into the bus lane on Glassford Street in Glasgow and was issued a fine (not entirely sure why my GPS directed me that way, but it happened).
I don’t have an issue paying the fine itself - the problem is the timing. The notice was issued on 18 December 2025, and the discounted payment period ended on 6 January. However, I was out of the country from 21 December and didn’t actually receive the letter until 24 January.
Because of this, I missed the discounted window and the fine has now doubled. It’s also approaching the 28 working day deadline, after which it increases again to three times the original amount and apparently escalated further.
I emailed them as soon as I returned, but the automated response says it can take up to 20 working days to receive a reply. I’m feeling a bit stressed as the 28-day deadline is coming up next week.
Does anyone know whether I should pay the increased amount now, or if the deadline is likely to be paused or reset since I’ve submitted an appeal with proof that I was out of the country? I’ve read that appeals don’t reset the clock once the discounted period has passed, so I’m unsure what to do.
Cheers
