Good morning,
I actually posted this originally a while ago and did get some way to resolving it, but the issue persists.
Last year, my wife and I were staying in an Airbnb in Leeds while we were looking for a house to rent in the area. Adjacent to the Airbnb was a car park for the building's residents; the signage said we needed to be registered to stay there. During our stay, we received 3 PCNs, saying that we had parked there without registration. I appealed because we received an email confirmation from Airbnb about a week before that we were registered to park there for the duration of our stay.
PCN part1PCN part 2They pursued us for the debt via Debt Recovery Plus. But after we notified them of a change of address, they reissued the PCNs. And I appealed again. Thankfully, my wife had found the email from the AirBnB host, and I appealed using that evidence. Smart Parking then sent me a letter saying that my car had not been registered, and that there was a tablet at the location to do this (there was none). But they would reduce the fine to £20. Wanting to just resolve the matter, I paid that PCN, and re-appealed the other two PCNs using the same email evidence.
Sart Parking follow upI finally received the other 2 letters, which reduced the payment to £20 each. But of course, life got in the way, and I forgot about them. So now I am back to having Debt recovery Plus chasing me for money again, whom I have ignored.
In my final letter with Smart Parking, I stated that we were registered with Airbnb and that there was no tablet at the location, despite what their letter claims. The Airbnb host has not been helpful and was unwilling to email them on our behalf. So we lodged a separate grievance with Airbnb directly.
A final note. I returned to the car park to get some photos of the signage, but the signage has been replaced with new signs that are much bolder and clearly state TENANTS ONLY. This leads me to believe that I may not have been the only one who has been caught this way.
I am honestly not sure what to do next. As far as I can see, I took every correct step to ensure I was parked correctly, and that this PCN was issued due to the AirBnB host not notifying Smart Parking of our registration.
Any suggestions?
