Hi there.

I sent them a message asking them to point to the nearest CPZ entry sign. Which in my opinion is way too far. And showing them the route I took.

I got this reply.

They basically didn't really reply and gave a pretty generic answer. But in general is it worth continuing?

Thank you!

On a separate note they're trying to introduce a CPZ where I live, the opposition from people to it has been immense -- which is good to see.

@Daim

I thought that even within a controlled parking zone there would still need to be signs saying whether it's OK or not (such as this one Example sign)

@Incandescent.
Thank you for the reply and for checking that stuff out. I actually took a very different route and from going along it, the relevant sign was located all the way here! Holyroad signs, not very visible, especially the time specifics. I certainly hadn't seen it.
The route I took that morning. Route on G Maps

Should I go with your suggestion in saying that the signage on my route was too far away and local signage on parking was absent?

Thank you

Hi guys,

I parked on a single yellow line on a Sunday, believing the normal rule of: 'weekdays after 6:30pm (or other start time stated)and on Saturday and Sunday free and allowed to park' was applicable.
When parking there in the morning I looked around for any specific signs -- none present.

On finishing work I found the PCN. Did not know why. Apparently this is a 'Restricted street'.

My understanding was along these lines:
RAC website:
Quote
"Single yellow lines with no sign.
If you can’t see a sign with rules stating that you can't park, then parking is allowed outside of the restricted hours that are displayed.
Outside of these hours, you can park on the single yellow line for free – without any restrictions."

So no signs --  normal rules apply. That is my genuine understanding.

There are no relevant signs anywhere near to where I was parking.
(one about permit parking, I wasn't parked in that box. one about paid parking further back up the road in the white boxes)

Here's the GSV location.

How could I have known without any signs? Or am I wrong in that assertion. Do I have a case?

Thank you!

Yes, that is the one. I came to pick up my car later in the evening. I even took photos of the signs and stuff when I left my car in the morning, but didn't see that my car was like a foot along a sloping kerb.

Hi everyone,

I tried to be so careful. My thoughts on the day were simple, single yellow line, it was weekend. It was okay to park there, but apparently the boot of my car was slightly adjacent to a lowered kerb, enough to warrant a ticket.

PCN Number: ED44264655
Veh reg: YH11 ETU

Do I have any grounds to appeal it? The road around the corner was also closed. The yellow line was also broken.

Any ideas appreciated!

Kind regards

I won this appeal.

All the 'reasons' the listed were the standard ones which I already showed were not actually relevant in this instance.

Thanks guys. I sent my appeal before the 14day date. Don't know when I'll hear back. But I'll post back here.

Thanks for the responses guys.

If I were to go with the petty and trivial extend of this 'contravention', with what arguments should I word it?

Yes, the new rules were introduced at the end of 2023 and enforced from last year.
https://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/parking/new-parking-rules  The so called awareness campaign never reached me.

I was unaware of this new rule, so when I parked I used made sure there was enough space for pedestrians, due to the lowered kerb there is no noticeable difference between the road and kerb..

Hi anyone that could be of help,

Found a PCN on my car, parked in front of my residence, where there is free off street parking. Had no idea why. Major maintenance works on my building are currently taking place, so thought it was in relation to that.

However it read: 100, section 50, 'parked on pavement'.
This frankly left me dumbstruck at first and with a bad taste of feeling mistreated after.

- Not made aware.
I had no idea of this new law, introduced in 23'/24'. Never received anything in the post, there were never a any signs on the street lights. I don't watch tv or the news. I do not follow road related(?) social media. Etc.

- Not obstructing anyone, really barely on the (dropped) kerb.
Looking at the attached photo evidence you can see my wheels are only on the edge by some centimeters. The kerb of this pavement is lowered here by design. This is for my residence's parking bays.
My car was in no way blocking pedestrians, vision impaired people, buggies or the ability of bin men to take out the bins — as can clearly be seen from the photos.

My experience was very straightforward. I just parked as normal, and my wheels happened to be on the pavement a little, this happened so easily because it's a dropped kerb, while of course making sure (in a common sense way) to leave space for pedestrians.

Please see attached photos here.

I would like to appeal this. As I didn't know about this new law. I was not blocking any of all the pavement users. Did not damage the already lowered kerb etc.

Any advice on how to best do this? (I'll need to do this within the next 2 days)

Thank you!!!
