I've just discovered that I have also been stung for this very same penalty notice. I couldn't believe it when a penalty charge notice turns up, as I'm always so careful. The irony is that like your friends, I'd also driven up from Buckinghamshire although fortunately not for a funeral. This signage can't be clearly enough positoned.
