Speeding and other criminal offences / Tricky situation with speeding

Hi
Trying to help my friend who is in a tricky situation.
Least year april to be exact he received a speeding fine.But he wasn't the driver of the car,at the time his car was borrowed by a potential buyer while at his brother's garage.
He as been suffering from a lot of personal problems,bad marriage,looking after his severely disabled daughter so he brushed it under the carpet.
He was sent an sjpn but buried his head in the sand filling it in and sending it off.Now he as the baliffs on his case which as made him wake up.
He's pretty much resigned himself to having pay the fine and the points.Is there any route or procedure he could use to get himself out of the mess avoiding the fine and the points,,mitigating circumstances due to his circumstances etc
