The Flame Pit / Re: What satnav software do you use to spot speed cameras?
« on: November 06, 2025, 02:14:38 pm »
Hi All,
I hope you are well.
I wonder what is the best software to use to spot speed cameras.

I use Waze for quite some time but I don't know if this app is up to speed with all the changing conditions on UK roads.

They also changed the way the pop ups appear on the screen including the speed camera warnings.
They changed something after an update and these pop ups now take the bottom 1/4 of the screen and I cannot even see the speedometer.
If it's an average speed check then these pop ups come up every so often which is pretty annoying.
Please advise.

My car oe inbuilt sat nav shows the speed limit and the vehicle speed at top left hand corner and beeps if the limit is exceeded.  In average speed camera sections it shows vehicle speed and average speed  between cameras.

If you want a paid  app that is updated weekly try https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/

Thanks for suggestion.
I reckon your car is relatively new.
Do the build-in sat navs in new cars differ much between car makers or do they use a well known vendor e.g. Garmin?

If the time is incorrect then you can reply that you weren’t the driver at the place and time, but you need then to be prepared to defend this, eg with your airport check-in time or whatever.
I remember they use to have issues with the timestamps after the time change but this was quite some time ago.
I reckon their equipment no longer exhibits this kind of issues. Their technology has catched up.

Any question(s)?
I don't know. I reckon there is no defence.

Hi All,
  I hope you are well.
I got caught by a speeding camera on the 24/10 PM
According to my calculations I have to respond by 24/11.

On my way to the airport there was a traffic jam on M1 and I had to go alternative routes, zigzagged to the airport. Was late by 10minutes anyway.
Only found this letter when I arrived on Thursday 30/10 PM

This was the weekend before BST/GMT time change so I think the time on the speed camera is correct.
They calibrated the camera in August 2025.

I had a Speed Awareness Course last year to keep my score clean but not for long.

I was mistaken, it's not ParkingEye but CP Plus Limited.
I think while I was reading this letter I saw ParkingEye vs Beavis mentioned and my faulty brain just picked it up.

I have contacted DirectSports and they did come back to me saying it's not their land apparently.

ok, I sent them an email.

These are the awards they won:

Ok, I wait for NoR to arrive then.

Thank you

I don't remember this process to be so confusing but at Derby Council

The registered keeper has the right to take their case to the Independent Adjudicator,
but that they are obliged to follow the national appeals process and will need to submit
formal representations with their mitigation to the Council first to be considered if they
wish to appeal the Penalty Charge Notice. However, we cannot consider any mitigation if
the registered keeper fails to provide any.

Now I need to make formal representation but the Webcode is nowhere to be found.

13
what do you think about their claim that "the legislation on the Notice to Owner is correct." ?
do they push the envelope?

I just got a response from the council:

DATE OF ISSUE: 07 October 2024
VEHICLE REGISTRATION NUMBER: LCXXXX
LOCATION OF CONTRAVENTION: Corporation Street

I refer to your representations received on 02 November 2024, in respect of the above
Penalty Charge Notice.
Please note that the legislation on the Notice to Owner is correct.
In view of this, if you have mitigation as to why the vehicle contravened the restriction
that you would like to be considered, then please ensure as the registered keeper of the
vehicle you submit your formal representations as soon as possible.

Alternatively, if you now upon reflection accept that you contravened the restriction, I am
willing to re-offer you the opportunity to make payment of the original, reduced amount of
£35.00 to close the case, if payment is received within 21 days from the date of this
response.
Payments can be made in any of the following ways:-
➢ Credit or Debit Card – In person or by telephone on 0345 600 1982
➢ Online At:
https://pcn.derby.gov.uk/pages/OnlineReferenceEntry.aspx?loadtype=PAYMENT
Please ensure that you quote the Penalty Charge Number when making payments.
If the information requested or payment is not received within 21 days from the date of
service of this letter, I will have to consider issuing you a formal Notice of Rejection.
Yours sincerely

Private parking tickets / ParkingEye - DirectSports
« on: December 04, 2024, 11:56:24 pm »
Hi,
I had a pleasure with Parking Eye in the past.
Now they sent me a ticket for paid private parking. It seems they have a working camera but payment machine isn't working but I don't have an evidence the machine was faulty.
Basically one button to type in the number plate was abused to the point it didn't work.

Where can I find the right email address or address to mail Sports Direct a request to cancel the ticket?
