I found myself in Derby City the other day on two wheels, I'm from Sheffield where all bus lanes (but not "gates") are open to Motorcycles - but Derby doesn't seem to have adopted this policy, instead opting for the bus lane roulette where only some are open to motorcycles where you need to recognise the symbol before committing to using the lane.Curiosity got the best of me and I had a look on Derby City Councils website and came across this, which I can only assume is a sloppy mistake and "Bike" should read "Motorcycle"Bus lanes are used in Derby to give priority to buses and other authorised vehicles.Any vehicle that has a minimum of 8 seats (excluding the driver) is classed as a bus and can use bus lanes, these include:Other authorised vehicles In addition, we also allow the following authorised vehicles in bus lanes: hackney carriages business-related vehicles motorcycles are permitted to use bus lanes where the signage and road markings display a bike symbol. Source: https://www.derby.gov.uk/transport-and-streets/parking-in-derby/bus-lanes-and-bus-stops/#So, my questions are - Does the "bike symbol" on the exemption list on the website mean that Motorcycles CAN use bus lanes open to cycles - as they're marked with a bike symbol?If not - and the website is described in a way that could be open to misinterpretation - would that be a suitable reason for an appeal if a PCN was issued in the future? Deep down - I'm sure that the website should read "motorcycle" not "bike" - I'd have asked them, but the customer services line closes at 1pm for some odd reason. Yep, they "manage" all the Welcome Break car parks that I'm aware of.The sign does follow the vague template of the PE signs (Red background with white boxes) they have on site, but I'm pretty certain these aren't PE signs.
