The photocard requires renewal every 10 years despite my original licence supposedly running until age 70.I've checked and there is such legislqation requiring the card to be updated each 10 years.Curiously, if I just renew it I don't need to submit a new photograph because they use the one from my passport (which is exactly the same one as on the old photocard).Bonkers.What troubled me was the DVLA who don't know their elbows from their bottoms.

Just to clarify, I have grandfather rights to these groups because I first got my licence in 1973.I don't drive the vehicles mentioned but don't want to lose something I currently have.Surprising that the DVLA woman didn't know and neither did any of her colleagues she asked.

I received the same letter from the DVLA, threatening me with a £1000 fine if I didn't renew my licence.When I received my first licence, back in 1973, it was supposed to be valid until my 70th birthday.It's all very well saying I need to renew the photocard but, if I don't, aren't I still licensed until then?I still have the green paper licence and there was no requirement to have a photocard with that.
