Contravention 52M - Failing to comply with a prohibition....

Summary of circumstances

I received two Penalty Charge Notices on 11 September, five minutes apart, both for contravention 52M (failing to comply with a prohibition on certain types of vehicle):

HZ87497563: 09:44, Steventon Road eastbound, junction with Old Oak Road
HZ87447281: 09:49, Bryony Road eastbound, near junction with Bloemfontein Road

I was driving to Westfield, although using a different route to my usual, and was not aware of any restriction on motor vehicles at either location. I did not see any signs, and I did not know what the 52M contravention meant until I received the notices. I do not know these roads well, and this is my first PCN in this area.

From my own experience and from what I have read from other drivers online, the signs appear to be mounted very high up and are hard to see when turning into the road.

The two contraventions happened within five minutes of each other. I would not knowingly have breached a restriction twice in succession. The notices came by post afterwards, so I had no chance to realise what had happened and avoid the second one.

I would like both PCNs challenged on the grounds of unclear or inadequate signage and, at the very least, the second one on the basis that I could not have known about the first.

Personal circumstances: I am in serious financial difficulty. I am working with StepChange and am on payment plans for several other debts. A £160 total charge would be very hard for me to meet.

My apologies, I believe I have now followed the correct guidelines for posting.

HZ87497563: 09:44, Steventon Road eastbound, junction with Old Oak Road - looking at the video of this one, it only shows me exiting the road so I don't even know if there was appropriate signage where I entered the road.

I was driving to Westfield and was not aware of any restriction on motor vehicles at either location. I genuinely did not see any signs, and I did not know what the 52M contravention meant until I received the notices. I do not know these roads well, at least not this particular route. Indeed I was following my in car satnav system.

The photos do not show you passing a restriction sign. Here is what you would see on approach to the T-junction: -
If this 2025 view is still the same you have an excellent appeal argument based on total obscuration of the signage.

Unfortunately GSV is way too out-of-date to show the signs. However the PCN photos show you completing a left turn. So there really needs to be an advance sign for this on Steventon Road.
So we need to know if there is such a sign. If there is, your case is weak.
