On Saturday (14/06) just after 8PM, I had to pop over to the store on Slough High Street. I've parked in a designated bay on Wexham Road, Slough, as someone was just leaving the space. I was parked as the last car in the designated parking area just before junction with Grove Parade and the 'Controlled Zone', and considered myself very lucky (as other people normally park there on single and double yellow lines). I've checked the parking restriction hours (8AM-6PM, so I'm outside them) and went off to the shop as I wasn't planning to stay there for longer than 15 minutes. The location was always a pay and display area, and I have assumed it still is.

I went to store, came back and noticed a PCN stuck to the windshield.
Upon checking the added text at the bottom of the sign. It is now not only pay and display (in restricted hours) but also permit only location. Clearly my mistake for assuming.

The area is now pay & display AND restricted to permit holders too.

It is a company car (it is a micro business) and this was a private journey.

Any suggestions for challenge or shall I accept, pay and never set my foot again on High Street outside of the restricted time?

So you looked at the sign, but didn't look at all of it, because PbP parking is only permitted 8am to 6pm Mon-Sat, and at all other times, and also all of Sunday, it is permit holders only.

Wexham Road is very long, so please can you post up a GSV link to where you parked and tell us exactly where the car was.

Yes, I haven't looked at all the sign because I though I remember that the parking is a pay & display in certain hours only. I have, very rarely, used it during paid hours and always paid, and wrongly assumed that the sign is for P&D only.

The location is in the original post, for the exact location. It is here:

OP, we need to sort out who's who here.

Who is the registered keeper i.e. a leasing company, which has leased it to a company, or the company itself?

Personally, I find this form of sign confusing. As parking is permitted 24/7, I prefer that the top panel is omitted and Mon-Sat used only in the middle panel, but unfortunately this form seems to be permitted see p171 Traffic Signs Manual https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5c78f895e5274a0ebfec719b/traffic-signs-manual-chapter-03.pdf

The car is owned outright by the business (company owns it - no leasing). OP is the company director. There is a couple of possible drivers in the company including for private use.

Thanks and apologies if this might seem pedantic, but ownership as such is not the issue. Who is the registered keeper i.e. the person who is liable under parking regulations?

Prior to a Notice to Owner being issued in effect anyone could dispute the penalty, however once a NTO is issued it's the RK or their authorised rep.

The company is the RK of the vehicle.

I'm just the protein automation driving it. ::)

You should submit informal reps at least putting your error in as good a light as possible and, assuming it's the case, ask them to exercise discretion for a 'first offence'.
