Salford Council, bus lane contravention, Chapel Street
« on: »
Hello,

I have receieved a PCN from Salford City Council for a bus lane contravention.  Would it be worth appealing this. I was using a courier SATNAV and unfortunately the directions provided took me on this road, and I did not realise I was within the operating hours of the bus lane

Please find attached PCN :

Many thanks

Were the signs warning of the bus lane adequate or not? I mean, if the signs were good but you just didn’t notice them, it’s probably your error, but if the signs were inadequate for some reason you might have the basis of a successful appeal.

Rather too many people who come on this forum rely so totally on satnav that restriction signs do get missed; how could the satnav be wrong ? Well it is wrong a great deal ! Poeple say, "I updated it only 2 days ago". Trouble is the underlying data the satnav relies on can be way out of date. In recent times, a new road built here in Crewe only came onto my satnav four years after it opened !! What hope is there that time-based entry restrictions will be on the data, or buslanes ? Not much, I say.  It is of paramount importance when driving in big and some not-so-big cities that one's eye is alert to signs barring entry, no matter what the satnav may be telling one to do.
