HARROW, 38L - CHARLTON RD, J/W D'ARCY DR HA3
« on: »
Hello all,

New to the forum and need some help. I'm relatively a new driver in UK and as fate may have it, recently I bypassed a 2 m road width restriction sign and drove through the middle striped section. I was not sure if my car would fit through it. Fearing either the side poles would damage the car or I'll get hit by someone from behind if I stop or go slow, I drove through the middle striped section.I wasn't sure if I could take a U turn either.

I recently received a PCN from Harrow Council for contravention "38L - FAILING TO COMPLY WITH A SIGN INDICATING THAT VEHICULAR TRAFFIC MUST PASS TO THE SPECIFIED SIDE OF THE SIGN - MUST PASS TO THE LEFT".

I know it's a long shot but my question is, is it possible to challenge the PCN stating that a Tesla Model Y width (with mirrors unfolded) is a little over 2 m (2129 mm to be precise) and I would have damaged the car had I gone through the restriction? Please suggest. Appreciate any help in this regard.

I've attached the PCN. Location : https://maps.app.goo.gl/JLygea3w74k2TiKF9

I'm afraid there are traps to catch out the "happy" motorist like this all over London. The reason they are there is to prevent HGVs from using local residential roads. The wide middle lane is for buses and emergency vehicles. However they are enforced mainly against the incautious motorist and make lots of money for councils.

There is an advance warning sign as you turn into the street: -

However, don't be in a rush to pay, because various anomalies have been found in these traps and the enforcement process followed by councils. I'm not an expert on this, so wait a bit for somebody more knowledgeable to come on here.  Don't, however, over-run the deadline to pay or submit reps on the PCN,

@CambridgeGuy please post the remaining pages of the PCN and also give us the number plate.

Unfortunately if your car is wider than 6'6'' then you simply can't drive down that road and need to find an alternative route. However that does not mean we cannot find some sort of technical appeal, but we need to see the rest of the paperwork and the video.
