Council Parking Ticket
« on: »
I’ve received my first ever parking ticket today from the council. It was for parking for 30 seconds in a zone I shouldn’t have been but I’m just wondering if I have grounds to appeal.

So I parked my car on the area that is circled in red. I have lived in this area all my life and every day people park there and nothing happens. But on this day I parked up, ran across the road to the postbox and when I got back there was a traffic warden photographing my car. I asked if there was a new sign she then pointed the sign out to me and said it’s always been there. The sign is circled in blue but it is not facing the road it is turned away so I couldn’t see it from where I was. And also the sign was covered in grime and muck so I couldn’t even see the times on it.

Would this be grounds for appeal? I know councils are notoriously difficult when it comes to parking fines so if it’s not worth the hassle so be it.

Yes, but if you park on a single yellow line, you have a duty as a motorist to look for the sign controlling the yellow line. If it had been missing you would have a better case.
