Hi Folks,
I recently drove my car to UCL Hospital London to collect my daughter after she had major pelvic/ hip surgery where she required a wheelchair and assistance to get home. Public transport was not an option because of zero platform access at Northwick Park underground Station and her restricted mobility.

I never drive into central London as I use public transport and was not aware of “routes restricted to certain vehicles “ on Tottenham Court Road. Unfortunately I have received three penelty notices for driving onto the exact same piece of road and I am expecting at least another three notices over the coming days.

Since the first day of unknowingly driving into the restricted section of Tottenham Court Road, I have driven on that same section at least six times when going back to UCLH for follow up appointments and driving around looking for available parking spaces. The subsequent contraventions were committed before receiving the first penalty notice. I would like to contest these notices as I genuinely made a mistake by not seeing the blue signage.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Warm Regards

Richard

Please post-up the first PCN, and then tabulate all PCNs with PCN Number, PCN Date, and Date of receipt.

Essentially there are two things to be established, (1) did the offences occur at all, and (2), how many PCNs were outstanding when you received the first one that alerted you to the offence.

At the moment, we know nothing about why the PCN was served, so need to check the PCN and the location signs, plus your approach route to them.
Then we need to assess the best option to get the subsequent PCNs cancelled.  Clearly it is a huge penalty for something you weren't aware of until the first PCN turned up.  Councils have a public duty to act fairly and expeditiously, and to be honest many will recognise the problem, and cancel some of the PCNs provided one is paid.

Of course investigation may show the signs are indequate or badly place, although I suspect it was your ignorance of their meaning that has got you into this situation.

So please do as requested and also post a GSV link to the location, telling us your approach to the signs.

Bear up as all may not be lost, although my feeling is you are going to have to pay one PCN at least but wait and see what the others say.

I wonder how the OP missed blue signage? How did he know it was blue if he didn't see it? Or does he have pictures of it?
Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.

@PURCELL1 as above, you must read the guidance here and post the relevant documents, without redacting PCN numbers or the number plate. We cannot give any meaningful advice without sight of the documents you have received.
