Received the enclosed PCN for making a left turn into the side road.

When I revisited the site, signs were present but I am not surprised I didn't see them.

There is a "No Left Turn" sign on the left of the pavement about 100m before the turning, and there there is a cycle lane on the inside left of the road, making the sign very easy to miss.

There are two "No Motor Vehicle" and camera signs each side of the road I turned into, but I didn't see them until I was was turning turning and it was too late to avoid.

I suspect there is not much I can do as Islington will say it was signposted, however I am of the view the signs are not adequate and hard to see until it's too late. The positioning of the No Left Turn sign is extremely poor and difficult for motorists to spot. It is a newish road system - the camera enforcement and the No Left Turn signs were installed a few months ago, and I suspect many motorists have been caught.

The location is https://maps.app.goo.gl/Xwk3go1CCh4wK36RA - you can see the No Left Turn sign on the left, and you can just about make out the camera enforcement signs from the middle of an empty road.

Any thoughts/idea very welcome. Many thanks.

Basically, the advance sign is against you, because as a motorist you are under a duty to look out for signs and obey them, sorry to have to say this. Any reason for not reacting to the advance sign ? following satnav maybe ?

Thanks @Incandescent - don't worry, that question was bound to arise! The first sign (the No Left Turn) I simply missed - perhaps the first pic doesn't show it sufficiently well, but it's positioned on the far left hand side of the pavement. Other signs are nearer to the kerb (as is usual) and closer to the road. Secondly, the cycle lane means that motorists are more or less in the middle of the road, and it's very easy to miss the sign given it is further away from drivers than usual - plus of course there is no camera enforcement sign on the approach road at all.

The enforcement camera signs at the end of Annette Road face 45 degrees away from motorists driving down Tollington Road - so they see them for the first time as they're turning left through them. This is made even worse of course if you missed the No Left Turn sign.

No I didn't have a sat-nav running, but I agree the likelihood of a successful appeal doesn't look good - but can't help thinking a couple of well positioned signs on the approach to Annette Road would mean fewer motorists would be in the position I am.

Well, if you are sufficiently aggrieved about it, remember you have the absolute right in law to take them to London Tribunals on this issue of signage. Of course you have to risk the full penalty, that's how the game works, I'm afraid. But first you have to submit representations to Islington, get them rejected, then register an appeal at LT.

If you submit reps within the discount period, they will very likely re-offer the discount; they don't want you to got to London Tribunals either, because it is a PITA for them, because they have to pay the adjudication fee, and also prepare an evidence pack.
